BAGGAGE CHECK
A baggage check is provided near the starting area. Bags will be transported to an area near the finish line.

STARTING AREA
Runners should assemble along Turner Street according to your wave/starting time. Runners will then be led to the starting line along Linden Street. The 5k runners will line up first and start their race at 8:00 am. Once the last runners leave the starting area the half marathoners will line up.

PACERS
The pace team will be pacing the half marathon race. The pace team will be assembling in the gymnasium on race morning and will move to the start corrals approximately 15-20 minutes prior to the race start. They will be carrying signs with the time in which they will finish the race (hours and minutes).

Pace groups for the following half marathon times: 1:30, 1:35, 1:40, 1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:05, 2:10, 2:15, 2:20, and 2:30.

AID STATIONS
5K – An aid station equipped with water is located at mile 1.5. You pass this aid station twice.

Half – There are six water stops along the course spaced approximately every 2 miles. At each stop the first table will have water followed by a second table with Gatorade electrolyte drinks. Energy gels are provided at mile 9 (water stop inside Lehigh Parkway).

PORTABLE TOILETS
Port-O-Lets are available along the race course. They are located at mile 2.5, 3.5, 5.5, and 11.

MILES/TURNS/CLOCKS
Each mile for the half marathon course will be accurately marked as certified by the USATF. There will be a clock at the start and finish. Please note that Bogert’s Bridge is a required part of the certified route; if the bridge is unavailable for use in 2027 the course will not be considered a certified course.

All of the turns will be clearly marked by a sign and staffed by a uniformed volunteer or law enforcement. Please obey their instructions; they are there for your protection and safety.

RACE BANDIT POLICY
When you purchased your race entry you entered into a contract between you and the race organization, Lehigh Valley Road Runners. This contract is binding and may not be transferred outside of the approved channels and dates (see Registration Changes). If someone else is caught running with your bib they will be disqualified and both you and said person will be banned from all Lehigh Valley Road Runner events for a period of one year.

HEADPHONE, STROLLER, AND DOG POLICIES
It is against race policy to wear headphones, earbuds, run with a stroller, or run with your dog in our races (service dogs excluded). This is for your safety and the safety of your fellow runners and in accordance with our insurance policy.

WALKER FRIENDLINESS
Our course opens to traffic after 3 hours. In order to complete the half marathon in this time frame, you must maintain a 13:44 minute pace. We break down our finish line after 3 hours and may not be there when you arrive. Also, there will be no finish food or refreshments available after 3 hours. You may walk the event but we may not be there when you finish.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
In addition to the medical tent at the finish line, a satellite medical tent is in the Little Lehigh Parkway adjacent to the LVRR clubhouse (at approximately mile 8). Paramedics are also positioned throughout the course. Transportation to the finish is available to anyone unable to complete the race.

ADVICE FROM OUR RACE PHYSICIAN

Hydration is an important concern for all athletes, distance runners certainly included. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has released guidelines to help athletes maintain proper hydration to allow for optimal performance.

The ACSM recommends the importance of adequate hydration before and after exercise. You should aim to drink 3-4 hours before working out to the point where your urine is faint yellow, not entirely clear. Drinking after a race or workout is extremely important as well, again drinking to the point of light-yellow urine is a good guide.

As for what fluids are best, plain water is generally adequate for shorter efforts (less than 1 hour). For longer or more intense exercise, a fluid with electrolytes and calories (Gatorade, Powerade, etc) may be superior. Electrolytes can also be obtained in other forms during workouts such as energy gels, beans, or even salty snacks like peanuts or pretzels. It can be useful to experiment with different fuel strategies before race day so that you know how your digestive system will respond.

In general, remember that hydration is crucial to making your racing experience a successful one. Use these tips as guidelines, not absolutes, and remember that the best way to plan your race-day hydration is to practice during your training runs.

Finally, a brief warning the over hydration can be more dangerous than dehydration. This is especially true for women with small frames, novice runners and slower runners. Our best advice to avoid this is to listen to your body and drink when you are thirsty.

More information about hydration during exercise is available at the ACSM website, www.acsm.org

What is Exercise Associated Collapse? Exercise associated collapse is one of the most common reasons for which athletes are treated in the medical tent following an endurance event. It is most often caused by low blood pressure which results from dilatation of skin blood vessels and sudden cessation of muscle pumping action after cessation of running activity.

What are the symptoms of exercise associated collapse? The athlete is unable to stand or walk due to lightheadedness, faintness, dizziness or syncope.

How can I prevent Exercise Associated Collapse? Some of the measures that you should take are:

  • Seek immediate medical attention if you are not feeling well.
  • Attempt to continue walking after finishing the event. You could also lie down on a flat surface to maintain good return of blood flow to your heart.
  • Before the event, inform the medical personnel about any existing medical conditions and medicines (including over the counter medicines) that you take.
  • You should be adequately hydrated and should avoid under or over hydration.

TIMING
Timing for the St. Luke’s Half Marathon & 5k is done by Queen City Timing. Results will be posted on the website within 2 days. We will be using single-use ChronoTrack B-Tag as a timing device to time you throughout the race. Please ensure the following in order to receive an accurate time.

  • Race bib is clearly visible on the front of the torso
  • Race bib is unaltered and unmodified (Do not fold or wrinkle)
  • Race bib is pinned in all four corners
  • Race bib is not covered (jackets, runner belts, water bottles, etc.)

Remember to run across all timing mats. It is also important that you wear your bib on the front of your shirt. Failure to probably wear your bib and timing chip will result in you not receiving an official time.

Your time will start as you cross the start line and stop as you cross the finish line. Do not trade bibs with another athlete.

Half Marathon splits will be available at the 10K mark.

We will be using the chip time — NOT GUN TIME — for our results and awards. Timing begins at official race start time.

Results will also be posted to RunSignUp and our website as quickly as possible. Due to the number of runners in their year’s event, as well as our dedication to accuracy, results may take a day or so to post. Please keep checking back to the website. Individual results will not be emailed.
